Ruffled Boxes

This pair of handmade ruffled boxes features knitted beadwork attached to birch plywood boxes. The boxes feature small hand glued box joints that are carefully sanded for smooth edges all around. I taught myself to knit when I was a teenager, studied textile design in college and began including beads in my work about 10 years ago. It seemed like time to bring my love of textiles and needlework together with box making. I knitted the ruffles with cotton crochet thread and included small glass beads. I like pairing needle work with wood working and will continue to develop designs mixing these materials but I will not make another set identical to this one. The boxes are signed and dated on the bottom. The shorter box is 3 1/4 inches tall x 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"; the taller box is 6 inches tall x 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
